GPA-Afram Inter-School Debate Competition

The fourth edition of the GPA–Afram Interschool Debate came off on August 8, 2024 at the Accra International Conference Centre. It was under the auspices of the 21st Ghana International Book Fair.

The debate brought together four senior high schools.

  1. St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School, Accra
  2. Aburi Girls Senior High School, Accra
  3. West Africa Senior High School, Accra
  4. Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School, Accra

Each school was represented by three contestants.

The topics the schools debated were carefully selected not only to help the students in critical thinking but also to equip them with cohesion skills in their academic endeavours.

  1. Election violence: who is to blame – politicians or the youth?
  2. The nuclear family system is the bane of society
  3. Artificial intelligence (AI) will redefine what it means to be human. Do you agree with this statement?

The judges for the debate were:

  1. Mr. Laud Bekoe, O’rielly Senior High School.
  2. Mr. Alfred Kugblenu, Presbyterian Senior High School, Teshie.
  3. Mrs. Augusta Lartey, Ghana Education Service.
  • The GPA-Afram Interschool Debate was co-sponsored by Afram Publications Limited. The company provided cash and books for awards.
  • Supplementary readers, textbooks and certificates were presented to all contestants in appreciation of their efforts.
  • The schools were also presented with certificates and books to stock their respective school libraries.
  • The overall winning school, St Thomas Aquinas SHS, was presented with a designed Crystal Plaque in appreciation of their extra effort.
