The Ghana Publishers Association (GPA), in collaboration with Ghana International Book Fair, UNESCO Ghana, the British Council, African University of Communications and Business and Gemspeed Publishing (Nigeria) organised a stakeholder forum on The State of the Book and Publishing Industry in Africa.

This stakeholder forum was held under the auspices of the 22nd Ghana International Book Fair (GIBF) at the British Council on 20th August, 2025.

The event, moderated Mr. Dan Odei (CEO, Icon Publishing), brought together key stakeholders in the publishing industry to understand snapshots of the Research Reports from UNESCO and the British Council presented by Mr. Carl Ampah (National Programme Officer of UNESCO) and Mr. Andrew Entsua-Mensah (Project Manager for Arts & Culture at the British Council).

The panel discussion as part of the Forum discussed challenges, opportunities, and strategies for building a more inclusive and accessible publishing sector in Africa. The panel discussion, moderated by Miss Shalom of Gempread Publishing Nigeria, involved the following panellists:

  • Wale Okediran (PAWA Secretary General)
  • Mrs. Lucy Ry-Kottoh (HoD, Dept. of Publishing Studies, KNUST)
  • Martin Egblewogbe (Co-Founder, Writers Project – Ghana)
